Are you looking for a gift that’s unique, personal, affordable, and creative? I found this little gem of an idea on Pinterest.com, and have been pleasantly surprised at the ease with which I’ve been able to create gifts for Christmas this year that my family and friend’s will treasure, and I didn’t even have to spend over ten dollars on the entire project!
This project is perfect even if you aren’t artistically inclined, because you don’t have to create an elaborate design to make it special - even a hand-written note or quote is always something love ones appreciate!
Products needed:
- Porcelain 150 paint pens (ideally fine-tipped, available at Michael’s for around $5 each or about $15 for a set of four).
*Tip: Michaels.com has printable coupons every week! I was able to get my set of porcelain pens for 40% off with my coupon.
- Plain white mug/plate/pitcher or any other type of china (available at the dollar tree for $1 each).
Wash the object that you want to design and dry thoroughly. Shake the Porcelain 150 pen for about 30 seconds and press tip repeatedly on a piece of paper until the ink flows easily. Simply draw on the object as you would on a sheet of paper! The ink isn’t runny or messy and is very easy to use. When finished, allow the object to dry for 24 hours. After it has dried, bake at 300F for 35 minutes. The package says that the product is dishwasher-resistant after baking. I can’t testify to this because I don’t have a dishwasher, but I have hand washed these items I’ve made and have had no issues at all with paint washing off.
Need ideas? Try a favorite quote from a movie, an inside joke with illustrations, a simple “I love you”, an image of a favorite pet, a Bible verse or song lyrics, or even just a repetitive design.
